About Heidi
Mind-body Therapist
I have been helping people create better lives since 1995. Over the years, I have had the privilege of helping people as a life coach, registered clinical counsellor, yoga therapist, and yoga/pilates instructor.
My journey toward becoming a therapist.
Obtaining a BA in Psychology and an MEd in Counselling Psychology taught me a lot about psychological theory and counselling techniques. However, being a good therapist is not something I learned in books.
Knowledge speaks. Wisdom listens.
My most significant learning came from receiving my own counselling and training in yoga and somatic therapies. From this, I learned to hone my skills and wisdom by listening to clients with presence. Tuning into verbal and physical communication without agenda creates a resonance that allows me to feel, hear, and reflect on what clients have said to me.
Inquiring from that place of resonance opens doors to new explorations and opportunities for growth.
In addition to my experience with clients, my careful attunement and clear insight came from paying attention to my own life. Experiencing the futility of the things I can not change, acknowledging the mixed emotions that arise and finding the courage to choose differently created the confident yet humble nature that clients tell me they experience in therapy sessions with me.
“You can not teach a woman anything; you can only help her find it within herself.” Galileo – gender-adapted.:)
Meditation, breathing, and movement practices are helpful but not mandatory elements of counselling with me. I use them as guides to help you develop a closer connection with yourself. Developing your own compassionate practices allows you to achieve emotional regulation and competency in your daily life.
I have learned that building a gentle, loving connection with yourself is what really heals.
